Fun day out with kids

We just went for a family day and got the family day tickets. It was pretty easy to book everything on their website, which was nice. The kids loved seeing all the animals, especially the monkeys. We even grabbed some snacks at the zoo cafe, which were decent. Overall, a good time, no stress.

Mixed feelings on a rainy day

We got adult tickets for a weekend visit. Booking online was simple enough. When we arrived, it was raining quite a bit, and while they do have some indoor areas, it felt like a lot of the park was still exposed to the elements, which made some parts less enjoyable. The animals seemed well cared for, and we particularly liked the primate feeding. Customer service at the gate was quick, but when I asked about covered areas, the response was a bit vague. Value was okay for the price, but the weather definitely impacted the experience, maybe a rain plan or more indoor options would help.

Always a great time here

This was our third time visiting, and we always get the annual passes. It's so convenient. This trip we did the meerkat experience for the first time, and it was just as well-organized as our previous lion feeding. The staff are consistently friendly and helpful. It's why we keep coming back – the animals are cared for and the park is easy to navigate. We had no problems at all with our passes this visit, they scanned right through. Just a reliable fun day out.

Good giraffe feeding experience

Booked the giraffe feeding. It was easy to do online. Got the confirmation fast. The experience itself was fun, no issues. Animals looked good. Would recommend for families.

Enjoyable red panda experience

I booked the red panda experience for my partner's birthday. The online booking process was straightforward, and I received the confirmation email immediately. On the day, we checked in smoothly; they scanned the e-ticket. The staff member leading the experience was very knowledgeable and passionate about the red pandas, making it really engaging. We got to feed them and learn a lot. The park itself was clean, and the walk-through habitats were well-maintained. We stayed for lunch at the cafe which was okay, standard zoo food. Delivery isn't really a thing for tickets, but access was easy. My only small point is the gift shop souvenirs were a bit pricey for what they were. Still, the experience was the main event and it delivered.

Planning a trip with the kids during the summer holidays. Will it be super packed? Wondering if I should book tickets way in advance.

M Mike Hughes 1 month ago
Summer holidays are always busy for any zoo, especially if the weather's good. You should def book tickets online ahead of time, pretty sure they recommend it.

It gets pretty crazy around then, yeah. I'd say book online now if you know your dates. Saves queuing and sometimes they limit entry if it's too full.

What's the parking situation like there? Is it free or do you have to pay extra?

I Ivy 3 weeks ago
Parking is free, thankfully! There's usually plenty of space too, even on busy days.

Does South Lakes Safari Zoo do an NHS discount? I've seen some places do, but not sure if they count.

J Jared Lindqvist 1 month ago
Yeah they do! My friend used her blue light card for a discount when we went last summer. Just make sure you have your ID handy at the gate.

Pretty sure they do. I think you might even need to book through a specific portal or something, but def worth checking their site for the exact process.

Can you take your own food and drinks into the zoo? Trying to save a bit of money and avoid expensive cafe food.

G Gwen 1 month ago
Yep, you totally can! We always pack a picnic when we go. There are loads of spots to sit down and eat.

Yeah, pretty sure it's allowed. We brought a big bag of snacks and drinks last time, no issues at all.

Thinking of booking a tiger feeding experience for next month. Is it really worth the extra cash or should I just stick to general admission?

K Kate 1 month ago
Oh definitely! My sister did the tiger one last year and said it was incredible. You get so much closer than you think, proper memorable.

Hmm, I did the lemur feeding, which was cool, but some of the other 'experiences' are a bit short for the price imo. Maybe watch some YouTube videos first if you're on the fence about the tiger one.
